Welcome to Term 2. We are all looking forward to a more settled term without signficant weather issues and COVID. We have started the term fully staffed with only 3 staff members away due to COVID. I will continue to update the community once per week with our COVID numbers and any updates or changes to regulations.
Welcome to Meg Bagnell who is taking on "The Arts" role for Term 2 and Rachel Clinch who is joining 3S. We are also honoured to have a number of Pre-Service teachers working and learning from our teachers this term, so you may hear about extra teachers in the classrooms. This is a great opportunity for the pre-service teachers, but also for our current teachers to learn and share expertise.
This term we have made some changes to our Playground Roster including times, length and play areas. At the end of last term, we reviewed all of our available play spaces (including some of the new grass areas) and have determined how to best make use of these spaces. The impact of this was a change to break times due to staffing numbers available for duties. So, there has been no change to first break, however, we have shortened the eating time at second break to 10 mins and have put it at the beginning of the break. In saying that, students are able to continue to eat past the 10 mins if they would like to. If you have any questions in regards to this, please don't hesitate to ask.
We were very lucky with the weather for both our Cross Country and Fun Run earlier in the week. Both days we had sunny, blue sky and lots of happy faces participating. I would like to thank all of the staff for their work on these days but mostly to Mrs Mills for her organisation. One of the proudest moments I felt, as a leader, was watching the community (students, teachers, parents etc) get behind our students in a friendly and fun way on the day. All of us cheering on those who were winning and also those who did not give up and kept going to complete the race. Congratulations to each and every one of the students who gave it a go and persisted, even when it was hard.
Thank you to Mrs Brar for her work in the organisation of ANZAC Day. It was a moving ceremony and once again was very proud of each and every student who either sat respectfully and listened or presented on the day. It was great to see parents / grandparents also join us for this commoration. We are enjoying being able to invite the community back to all of our events and get back into our routines.
The Hilliard team look forward to working with you all to have another successful term. Please remember, if you have any concerns/questions, start with your child's class teacher and feel free to move onto the Deputy Principals (Mrs Cutajar Yrs 4-6 or Mrs Young P - 3) or myself. We are all in this together.
Enjoy your ANZAC long weekend.
We learn, we lead and we succeed.

From Your Friendly Office Staff
We hope you all enjoyed the Easter break, we sure did!
We have just a few reminders;
Firstly, please remember to log student absences, either by using Qparents or phoning the student absence line - 3820 1666 (option 1). Please state the students name, class, reason for and duration of, their absence.
Secondly, when signing students out early, please sign your student out at the office (using our new ipad!), we will then give you a slip to pass on to your child's teacher. Parents/caregivers will have to collect their students from the classrooms to avoid interrupting learning.
Finally, welcome back and enjoy Term 2!

P And C
Last term went out with a big bang thanks to the Hilliard school community!
Easter Extravaganza meal deals and over the counter treats were a big success!
The extra special days celebrated at the Tuckerbox really boost the funds going into P&C projects, working towards the big challenges such as playground upgrades. The talented convenors, Emma and Kat along with the fabulous volunteers, help make these days possible (all while having a load of fun of course) but the families supporting these specials days really make them a success and this year’s “Easter Extravaganza” was no exception! The children loved their visit from the Easter Bunny, the delightful themed treats and delicious meal deals, their smiles and squeals saying it all.
Hilliard wins Freedom Property Competition!!
Thanks to a massive show of community support we grabbed the lead at the final minute by one vote! Congratulations families, you have won $1,000 for the school to spend on composting equipment to teach the kids the science and environmental value behind organic waste management. It will also help reuse the tuckshop waste scraps and feed the garden beds and grow the vegetables which the kids will get to enjoy in their tuckerbox lunches.
P&C have entered Hilliard in the Wonder Recycling Rewards campaign this term!
Please help us collect bread bags (any brand) and send them to school so we can earn points to redeem on RHSports equipment and be in the running to win an exercise circuit made from recycled soft plastic.
The more we collect, the more points our school earns! (Donations are to be taken to the Tuckerbox).
Containers For Change
The P&C coordinates "Containers for Change Queensland" recycling scheme to raise additional funds for our school community. There are orange bins placed around the school to collect any containers students might have at break times, or alternatively you can donate containers directly at any depot and use the following code: Hilliard State School Scheme Id #C10161576. This can be used across Queensland, so family members further afield can contribute too! For more information on what containers are eligible, please see www.containersforchange.com.au
The Hilliard Tucker Patch is thriving in this beautiful weather! The tomatoes, corn, broccoli, snow peas, watermelon, lettuce, and cucumbers are all looking very happy. Take a moment to check out the veggie patch on your next visit. If you are interested in helping out, or have any ideas, please contact hilliardpandcgardening@gmail.com
BBQ, Cake & Plant Stall – Election Day Hilliard School Hall
