Issue 12, Friday 8th August 2025
From the Principal
A Heartfelt Thank You
Thank you to everyone for your support of our teachers and staff during Wednesday’s industrial action. Your care, understanding, and encouragement mean so much to us. It’s a privilege to be part of such a supportive and caring school community.
This week’s Weekly Video comes to you in a slightly more “back to basics” style, as our talented Year 6 Leaders (producers) are away representing our school at Parliament House. I am sure we all look forward to their return next week for our video production.

Our Prep Scientists at Work!
This week in science, our curious Preppies have been exploring materials and their properties, just like real scientists!
They’re learning to identify everyday materials (like wood, plastic, metal, and fabric) and describe how they feel, bend, or hold their shape.
Check out our hands-on investigations!

** Special Visitors at Our School! **
We’ve been lucky to share our school grounds with a very special duo, our resident wallaby and her adorable joey! They’ve been spotted hopping through the oval and resting quietly under shady trees while we learn and play.
This beautiful connection to nature is something we treasure. It’s a gentle reminder for us all to move respectfully and quietly around our outdoor spaces especially when our little wild friends are visiting.
Keep your eyes peeled, you might just spot them during your day!

Proudly supporting Bullying No Way: National Week of Action
This year Hilliard State School will be participating in the Bullying No Way: National week of action, 11 to 15 August 2025. Students are invited to wear a SPLASH of PURPLE on Tuesday 12 August to show their support.
Bullying No Way Week is a commitment being made by thousands of schools and supporters across the country. It provides an opportunity to demonstrate our commitment to bullying prevention. It gives us an opportunity to connect with students, staff and school communities to implement workable solutions to prevent bullying.
The theme for this year's campaign is Be Bold. Be Kind. Speak Up.
It takes a community to be brave and address bullying behaviours, within and beyond the school gate.
Students can be bold, kind and speak up to support others being bullied. While trusted adults are there to support children and young people learn how to be kind to each other and report bullying.
This Bullying No Way Week, we’re asking you to be bold and say something, be kind and support someone and be proud to speak up against bullying.
For more information about Bullying No Way Week and bullying prevention, visit the Bullying No Way website.

Japanese

We have received a new set of bilingual Japanese books. This is exciting news for our Japanese program. I set up a display in the library last week and I will be introducing students to these texts in the next few weeks during Japanese lessons.

Sport

Congratulations to our athletes who represented Hilliard State School at District Athletics on Thursday and Friday this week. We had a team of 26 students participating across the two days.
