Issue 7, Friday 16th May 2025
From the Principal
Yura families,
As we settle into the heart of Term 2, I’d like to thank you all for your continued support and partnership. Our classrooms are full of learning, and our students are engaging with their reading goals and high-impact teaching strategies. With the weather turning cooler, I have a few important reminders and updates to share with our school community.
Winter Uniform – No Hoodies or Non-School Jumpers
As the temperature drops, we understand the need for students to stay warm. However, we kindly ask that families ensure children are wearing school-coloured jumpers or jackets only—no hoodies or casual jumpers, please. This helps us maintain our sense of pride and belonging in our school identity. If you need support with uniform items, please don’t hesitate to contact the office—we’re here to help.
Parking Update – Bus Zone Changes
Please note there have been recent changes to parking near the bus stop outside the school. New signage has been installed to clearly indicate where parking is no longer permitted during drop-off and pick-up times. These adjustments are designed to ensure the school is accessible for ALL of our students during our Carpark Refurbishment. Even short tops or drop offs can prevent access entirely for some of our students. While we understand parking can be challenging during busy times, we kindly ask families to park a little further up the street. This small adjustment makes a significant difference in ensuring every child/student can arrive at school safely and with dignity.
Thank you for your understanding, care and patience during this time.
We have had some changes to parking out the front of the School on Alexandra Circuit.
There are two carparking spaces in front of the BUS ZONE that are now a NO PARKING ZONE.
This is to facilitate parking for students with disabilities, as this is their only access to our school, due to the impacts of the works in our carpark.
PLEASE DO NOT PARK IN THIS AREA.

NATIONAL SIMULTANEOUS STORYTIME
In Week 5, on the 21 May, our school will be participating in National Simultaneous Story Time. This is a time for “millions together around Australia to experience the many joys of reading” says CEO Cathie Warburton. “It is a reminder of the importance of language development, learning and literacy and the role that libraries play in fostering these essential skills.”
Keep an eye out to see how classes around our school participated in this experience.

From the P&C
Yura families
Wow, what an amazing but busy start to Term 2! Our first fundraiser of the term was the Election BBQ, plant, and cake stall on 3 May. We thought it might have been a quiet day with it being a long weekend and people pre-voting, however, we were pleasantly surprised with a lot of families stopping by to purchase the delicious food and plants. We made a profit of $1,890.68.
Our next fundraiser was our Mother’s Day stall which was a huge success. We had purchased a lot of new items this year as well as gifts that our senior students had made as part of their interest group with Mrs Witham. We also had a number of highly creative families who donated items for us to sell at the stall. We made a profit of $3,478.50.
Our last fundraiser was the Colour Fun Run last Friday. From all reports, photos, and videos the kids had an absolute blast and even the adults enjoyed getting involved whether it was spraying the kids with colour or being slimed themselves. A massive thank you to the teachers and staff who put their hand up to be slimed, including our special guest, Mr Dan Rigney from The Hills IGA. We made a profit of just over $35,000 (less 44% costs to Australian Fundraising who ran the colour fun run).
All the above-mentioned profits will be used to resurface our multipurpose area which is up near the hall. The success of the above events would not have been possible without the generosity of local businesses and school families who provided food and drinks, baked goods, plants, prizes etc. Thank you also to everyone who has volunteered their time to help over the last few weeks. It has been lovely to meet some new families, especially our new prep parents. Volunteering is a wonderful way to make new friends and be involved in your children’s education.
The Uniform Review Committee have had discussions with our new supplier and are currently waiting for them to produce some samples of the uniform so we can show everyone the following proposed changes:
- Changing the skorts and shorts to a navy blue and changing them to a material that is more wearable, washable, and breathable.
- Changing the sports shirts to a material that is more wearable, washable, and breathable which have the updated logos on the back.
- Changing the tracksuits to have a navy-blue inner lining rather than the white.
- Changing the navy-blue hat so it does not have the sport colour on the inside which will make it more breathable and cheaper.
Once the samples are available, we will display these in the office so everyone can have a look, and we will be sending out an electronic survey for parents, students, and staff to complete.
Our next general meeting will be on Monday 2 June at the earlier time of 6pm in the staff room. We would love to see some more fresh faces and don’t worry if you need to bring the kids along as they’re more than welcome. Otherwise, if you cannot come along, keep an eye out for the link to join us online.
Thanks
Sam Eady
President
Thank you to the Jones Retail Group for donating the items for our election day BBQ!!!

Thank you to Social Mums Club for donating prizes for our Mother's Day Raffle!!!

Thank you to Dan Rigney from the Hills IGA for supporting our Colour Fun Run AND for agreeing to be our very special guest, getting slimed at the end of the event by our competition winners!!!
