AWAY FOR THE DAY!
'Away for the day' supports schools to maintain a strong focus on student educational achievement, wellbeing and engagement by:
- providing optimal learning and teaching environments
- encouraging increased face-to-face social interactions between students
- promoting the health and wellbeing of students through increased social interaction and physical activity
- reducing the potential for students to be exposed to the negative impacts of the digital world, resulting from unsafe or inappropriate technology use.

Road Safety Around the School:
Some general reminders regarding road safety around the school for our students, parents, staff and the general community:
- Using drop-off zones correctly
- Obeying parking signs and restrictions
- School zones - 40km/hr between 7-9am and 2-4pm

Reboot
Reboot – Term 1
Term 1 is all about re-establishing our routines around the Reboot program.
Classes have written their Treaties, where as a class, they agree to and sign off on, some rules and guidelines around expected and appropriate behaviours for them as a group.
Every class has created a Reboot Wall where the 5 Faces are displayed. We use the 5 Faces to support students to identify, communicate and regulate their emotions.
Ask your child about the 5 Faces in their classroom.
Sport
Year 3-6 Cross Country and Prep-2 Fun Run – Week 8
We are excited to announce two events coming up in Week 8 – the Year 3-6 Cross Country and the Prep-2 Fun Run!
Thursday, 20th March – Year 3-6 Cross Country
On Thursday, our Year 3 to 6 students will take part in the Year 3-6 Cross Country event. This is an excellent chance for our students to challenge themselves, build endurance, and enjoy friendly competition. The races will be held throughout the day, with each year group completing their designated course on the school grounds. Whether racing for a personal best or just enjoying the experience, we look forward to seeing the spirit and effort from all our runners. Families are encouraged to come along and cheer on the students!
Friday, 21st March – Prep-2 Fun Run
On Friday, our youngest athletes – Prep to Year 2 – will participate in the Fun Run. This event will be a fun and energetic way for our little ones to get involved, develop a love for physical activity, and enjoy the excitement of the day. Expect plenty of smiles, laughter, and team spirit as they run, jog, or walk their way around the course. Parents are welcome to join in the fun by supporting and encouraging our young participants!
Get Ready for the Carnivals – Join a Local Parkrun!
As we gear up for our school carnivals in 4 weeks, we encourage all families to get active and participate in free local Parkruns held every Saturday at 7:00 AM in various locations around the Redlands. These Parkruns are a great way to build stamina and enjoy the outdoors as a family. They are beginner-friendly, with no pressure to run – you can walk or jog at a pace that suits everyone. It’s the perfect opportunity to get ready for the upcoming school events and have some fun while doing it! We hope to see many of our families joining Parkruns in the lead-up to the carnivals, helping our students prepare, and encouraging a healthy lifestyle together. Let’s make this term active, fun, and full of community spirit! 🏅🎉

Student Celebrations!
Congratulations to Ericka and Jadeana on their selection to the Bayside District 10-12 years girls' basketball team!
Ryan represents the Redlands United Academy soccer club. Over the past 3 weekends he took part in the Pre-Season Championship in which his U9 team competed against 28 other clubs from Brisbane and the Gold Coast. Last weekend his team made the finals, and they won!
We are very proud of his achievements so far and look forward to seeing how he progresses in his soccer journey.

Yura Hilliard families
Thank you to all the families who purchased icy treats at the ‘Meet the Teacher’ afternoon and to the parents who came along to our ThinkUKnow? session on Wednesday night. I would also like to say a big thank you to all the new parents who joined us at our first P&C general meeting last week. It was great to see some new faces in person and online.
Our AGM is fast approaching on Monday, 10 March at which we will be looking to form a new executive team and committee for 2025. At the AGM all current executive members must step down so all positions will become available. The executive roles are President, Vice President (we can potentially have more than one), Treasurer and Secretary. Due to a change in circumstances, our current Treasurer and Secretary will not be putting their hands up for these positions again, so we will definitely need to find some new parents to fill these roles. If you have any interest in or queries about the executive roles, please email me at hilliardpandcpresident@gmail.com. If an executive role does not interest you, that’s ok, we would still love to have as many general members as we can. You don’t need to attend every meeting or volunteer all of your spare time. You can come along to just hear what is happening around the school. It is totally up to you ☺️
In other news, we have had to make the hard decision to delay the Movie Night until later in the year. We were contacted early last week by the movie screen company letting us know that they had unfortunately double booked themselves. So, we can keep it as a themed event, it will now be held in November with the Christmas theme.
So, what’s the plan now, I hear you ask? We are now looking at holding a Colour Fun Run in early term 2!! For our new families who have not yet experienced a colour fun run, it is a chance for the kids to help raise money for the school while having an amazing afternoon full of laughs, smiles and of course, colour!! More information will be available soon.

Hello Hilliard Community! 😁
Some information for you all today as we have quite a few enquiries about the very popular Recreational Dance Programs. Permission forms will be sent out in Week 7 of this term and due back by Week 10.
The Hilliard Dance coaches are very excited to continue this program in 2025 and can’t wait to work with all groups.
