Book Week 2024
Every year at Hilliard, we look forward to celebrating Book Week. This year, as well as our Book Week parade and library / class activities, we are also offering a colouring in competition, and have organised a Book Week musical show for all students to attend:
Celebrating Children's Book Week® 2024, the educational and interactive musical adventure Maybe A Miracle! is coming to our school! Students will be immersed into a highly interactive, educational musical adventure celebrating the Children’s Book Week® 2024 theme (Reading is Magic!) and incorporating a selection of the CBCA 2024 Shortlisted Books.

Safety
To ensure the safety of all of our students, we use the two main gates (Hanover Drive and Alexandra Circuit) which are staffed during the end of the school day. Please DO NOT ask your students to use the back fence as an exit. We will be sharing this message via teachers, newsletter and on assembly. We ask for your support with this.
Student Council
Bullying No Way: National Week of Action
The student council held a free dress day on Thursday 15th August, students and staff were invited to wear purple, the new hero colour of the Bullying No Way: National Week of Action campaign.
The theme for 2024 is 'Everyone belongs'.
"When we all feel like we belong, bullying struggles to find a place. It's about embracing who we are, respecting everyone's differences and standing up together against unkindness.
Belonging means we all have a role in preventing bullying. We're encouraged to speak up and create a safe place where everyone feels supported and respected, and our voices are heard and valued."
Together, we raised $450.90!!! Well done to everyone involved!!!

Yura families
Wow we are already at week 6 and have only a few more exciting weeks ahead until school holidays. I was lucky enough to attend the Schoolaerobics National Competition in Adelaide over the weekend and watch all our very talented Hilliard dancers. Congratulations to everyone who competed, you were amazing!! I am looking forward to watching them perform again at a special school parade this Friday morning from 9am to 11am, and again at our Night of Dance celebration concert on Saturday, 24 August.
Our next P&C meeting is this coming Monday night starting at 6.30pm in the staff room. We would love to see some new faces and welcome everyone to come along to hear about what is happening around the school.
Term 3 fundraising events coming up are:
IGA BBQ raffle. The amazing Dan from our local IGA is running his annual BBQ raffle for the month of August with all proceeds coming to the school. We can’t thank Dan enough for all the amazing ways he supports our school. This year the prizes are:
1st prize – a BBQ plus a $150 voucher
2nd prize – a $300 voucher
3rd prize – one month of free coffee
Wow, they are some awesome prizes!! I encourage everyone to visit the IGA this month to buy some raffle tickets. We will also be holding a BBQ at the IGA later in the month to help sell tickets and raise further funds for the school.
Father’s Day stalls are on Wednesday 28th and Thursday 29th August (Friday 30th is a pupil free day) and we are still looking for donations of baked goods and stock to sell.
Gold4Good is a new fundraising activity we are hoping to run this term. This fundraiser allows families to turn their old, broken or unwanted gold or silver jewellery into much needed funds for the school. Keep an eye out for more information coming soon.
Subway Day is on Tuesday 3 September and order forms will be sent out shortly.
We are still looking for help with the face painting and hair braiding for our Movie Night on Saturday 16 November, so if you know of any high school siblings who can help, please email me. No experience is required as we will teach them how to do it beforehand. We are also still looking for some portable flood lights or light towers and a portable stage, if anyone has any or knows of someone who does could you please contact me. We would really appreciate any help we can get with these.
If you have any questions about the upcoming events or anything P&C related, please do not hesitate to email me at hilliardpandcpresident@gmail.com
Thanks so much

Around The World
Thank you all for such wonderful support of our Around the World food adventure so far this term. Our Lasagna, Shepards Pie, Butter Chicken and Hotdogs have been a huge hit and we are proud of every Hilliard Student who has tried a new or different food because of it. Next week we are headed to Central America and in Week 8 we are off to Greece! Keep your eyes out on the Hilliard SS Facebook Page for the Weekly Round Up Video’s as in each there is an interview with different members of Staff from each of our Countries of the Week.
We will be closed for the Pupil Free Day coming up on Friday the 30th of August.
Please also keep in mind, if you’ve ever wanted to Volunteer in the Tuckshop, you need just pop your head in when you are at school, call us on 3820 1638 or email us at hilliardtuckshop@gmail.com to get involved, we love seeing new faces!
