Issue 10, 21st June 2024
From the Principal
Have a safe and wonderful holiday. Please see some information below about our wonderful "Bush Play" that we are starting in Term 3 for our Yr 3 - 6.
Leanne.
Bush Play:
I am delighted to inform you that our school will soon be offering an exciting new outdoor activity for our Year 3 to Year 6 students: Bush Play. This initiative is designed to provide our students with a unique opportunity to engage with nature, develop important life skills, and enjoy the many benefits of outdoor play.
Bush Play will take place in a supervised, natural setting within our school grounds, where students can explore, create, and interact with the environment around them. Activities will include nature walks, building with natural materials etc These experiences aim to foster creativity, resilience, and a sense of environmental stewardship among our students.
We believe that Bush Play will have numerous benefits for our children, including:
- Physical Development: Engaging in outdoor activities promotes physical health, coordination, and fitness.
- Social Skills: Working together in a natural setting helps build teamwork, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
- Mental Well-being: Time spent in nature has been shown to reduce stress, improve mood, and enhance overall mental health.
- Environmental Awareness: Experiencing the outdoors firsthand cultivates a deeper appreciation and understanding of our natural world.
To ensure the safety and enjoyment of all participants, we held a special assembly on Tuesday with all students and explained Stick Safety and Snake Safety. I have attached a risk assessment that I have considered for your information.
We are very excited to begin launching Bush Play into our school play breaks after a successful year of Bush Buddies as a Special Interest group. The Bush Play area will begin Term 3 and we will monitor and review.
To assist you with your understanding, I have attached the following documents:
- Risk Assessment
- Snake Safety Poster
- Stick Safety Poster
- Video
- Bush Play document
If you have any concerns/questions, please email me directly as I am happy to discuss. If you would like your child NOT to permitted to enter this area, I will also require an email.

School Watch
The School Watch program encourages everyone to look out for and report any after-hours crime in our schools.
Empty schools can become targets for unlawful entry, arson, stealing, graffiti and property damage, especially during school holiday periods. This comes at a cost to the whole community and not just the financial cost of repairs.
The School Watch program is a partnership between the Department of Education and Protective Services Group, Queensland Police Service, providing a way for members of the community to report anything they see that is suspicious, even if it seems minor.
On average, more than 700 calls are made to School Watch every year, helping to keep our schools safe.
Look, Listen, Report. Call School Watch on 13 17 88.
If you see a crime in progress, call Triple Zero (000).

From the P&C
Yura families
How crazy busy has the last couple of weeks been?! We had the TFT Schoolaerobics State Competition, and all dance teams, trios, pairs and singles were amazing. There were some great results, and we can’t wait to see them all perform again in August at the Nationals competition in Adelaide.
Thank you so much to everyone who purchased some yummy food and drinks from the hall canteen at the two sports days. We raised approximately $1,300 which will go towards our playground upgrade project. But more importantly, how about the cupcakes that were entered into the competition?! Wow there were some amazing entries! Thank you to everyone who generously donated cupcakes and congratulations to the winners.
We also ran the hall canteen last weekend at the BrisBricks Big Train Day Lego Expo and raised approximately $500. It was lovely to see the kids (and not so little kids 😊) having fun racing their Lego trains etc.
Today we celebrated Under 8’s Day, what a wonderful way to finish Term 2! We hope all the students in Prep to Year 3 had a lot of fun and enjoyed the treats we provided.
Next term looks to be a busy one again with the Disco, Father’s Day stall, Subway Day and a new fundraiser run by ‘Gold4Good’. There is information about the Disco below and information about the other events will come out shortly.
Our next committee meeting is on Monday, 8 July 2024 starting at 6.30pm in the staffroom and we would love to see you there. Thank you to everyone who has volunteered over the last couple of weeks, whether it has been in the Tuckshop, the hall canteen at events, organising the disco etc. Your help is greatly appreciated.
I hope everyone has a safe and fun two weeks holidays. Remember, if you are going to the movies over the holidays, use the Movie Vouchers that were emailed to families on 13 June. Please let me know if you didn’t receive them.
If you have any questions about the upcoming events or anything P&C related, please do not hesitate to email me at hilliardpandcpresident@gmail.com
Thanks so much
