Expectation of the Week
The expectation of the week for weeks 9&10 is following instructions, First Time, Every Time!
Reboot - Line of Opportunity
What is The Line of Opportunity?
The Line of Opportunity separates the Trying and Survival Zones from the Learning and Mastery Zones. Being below the Line means students have limited opportunity to learn, achieve or even enjoy activities. Being above the Line means students are able to effectively learn and engage with tasks in a way that often makes them feel capable and positive about themselves and achieve success in learning.
Everyone has factors in their life that impact their ability to cross the Line of Opportunity. Being aware of what those factors are, how they affect you and knowing what strategies to use to help keep above the Line gives students the opportunity to make informed choices to positively impact their own life and learning.
The Quadrants of Engagements are part of the Reboot tools we use at Hilliard State School create a calm, stable environment with relationships that provide emotional and physical safety enabling our students to explore new concepts and move to the Mastery Zone.

QParents
Just a quick reminder about the QParents App! We are currently sitting at 78% participation, which is good. We would love to see this increase to 100%, that would be GREAT!
On QParents you can manage your childs absences; permissions for excursions, camps and activities; as well as receiving invoices and managing payments. All in one simple, easy-to-use and secure app on your smartphone or computer.
If you would like more information please contact us at the office on 3820 1666 (option 3) or email: admin@hilliardss.eq.edu.au
Have a wonderful weekend!

From the P&C
Yura families,
Wow I can’t believe it is nearly the end of Term 2!!! This year is certainly going fast. The next couple of weeks are action packed and we are again asking for your help. Even if it is just a short time it is still a big help and as they say “many hands make light work”.
Our upcoming events for the end of Term 2:
Sports Day Cupcake competition – Tuesday, 11 June (Prep to Year 2) and Wednesday, 12 June (Years 3 to 6)
Here’s all the information on how to enter the Hilliard State School Sports Day Cupcake Competition:
1 - Design, Bake and Decorate as many cupcakes as you like (usually 12 works best for transport to school) to donate to our P&C Fundraiser Bake Sale happening on both Junior (Tuesday 11th of June) and Senior (Wednesday 12th June) Sports Day
2 - Bring your cupcakes to school on your child’s Sports Day, dropping them into the Tuckshop between 8am and 9:30am
3 - Our Judges (Mrs Witham, Mrs Cutajar and Mrs Young) will be making their judging rounds that morning from 9:30am
4 - Once a winner is chosen, we will announce later that day and prizes (kindly donated by YMCA) will be awarded on Assembly on Monday 17th of June
5 - All cupcakes entered into the competition will then be sold over the counter at the Tuckshop at 1st Break to those students competing on that day. If there are any leftover they will be sold to parents and other students at 2nd Break
6 - If you deliver your cupcakes to the Tuckshop in a container, please make sure it is clearly labelled and it will be washed and delivered back to your child’s classroom that afternoon.
Some helpful hints and tips:
Students and Parents/Carers are encouraged to bake and decorate together. Using your family Sports House Carlson Rogers Aston and Butler as inspiration
There will be 1 Junior and 1 Senior Winner
We encourage Gluten Free, Dairy Free and Egg Free creations if your household has any of these aversions
Don’t forget to have fun!
Sports Day Hall Canteen – Tuesday, 11 June (Prep to Year 2) and Wednesday, 12 June (Years 3 to 6)
We will be opening the hall canteen for the parents/carers/families on both days and are looking for volunteers to help throughout the day. So, while your kids are not competing (and especially during the lunch breaks) we would love your help.
If you are interested in helping at either of these events, please register your name on one of the following online registers:
Junior Sports Day - Tuesday: VolunteerSignup - Online volunteer signup sheets - Junior Sports Day P-2 Tues 11th June signup sheet

BrisBricks Big Train Day Lego Expo – Saturday, 15 June 2024
BrisBricks are bringing their Lego expo back to Hilliard State School and the P&C have been asked to run the hall canteen for the day with all proceeds being given to the school for our playground upgrade project. The expo will run from 9am to 4pm where they will be racing trains and showcasing their most imaginative designs! So, while the kids are having fun, why not help us in the canteen even if it is just for an hour. If you are interested, please email hilliardpandcfundraising@gmail.com
Under 8’s day – Friday, 21 June 2024
We will be providing some yummy treats for the students, and their siblings, so will be looking for some volunteers to help hand these out. If you are interested, please email hilliardpandcfundraising@gmail.com
Our next committee meeting is on Monday, 10 June 2024 starting at 6.30pm in the staffroom and we would love to see as many parents, carers, grandparents etc. we can. Remember if you cannot make it in person, you can join the meeting online via Teams plus kids are welcome to come along too if you don’t have a babysitter.
Lastly, I’d like to wish all the best to those students competing at TFT Schoolaerobics State Competition at Buderim this weekend. Go Hilliard!!

Redland City Bands are running a workshop for brass players on Friday 7th June at 7pm at the Edgar Harley Hall (located within the Cleveland Showgrounds, behind the Cleveland Assembly Hall on Smith Street).
The workshop will be facilitated by Tim Francis, Associate Principal Trumpet with Orchestra Victoria. It has been specifically designed at the beginner through intermediate levels - ideal for players upto AMEB Grade 6 (but all abilities are most welcome). The attendance fee is $5, which is a bargain for the wealth of experience and practical learnings Tim will impart. We encourage as many people as possible to bring along their instrument to enjoy an evening of learning. Topics covered will include effective warming up, smart practising and brass ensemble playing.
Please purchase tickets at the TryBooking link: https://www.trybooking.com/CRZEO
Tim is in Queensland to perform as a guest soloist with the Redland City Concert Band at their Gala Concert on 8th June at the Paul Bancroft Centre (details at https://www.trybooking.com/CQRZW). We would be pleased to offer discounted tickets to any attendees of this Workshop with Tim to the Gala Concert - a discount code will be provided upon booking the workshop.
