Expectation of the Week
The expectation of the week for weeks 3 and 4 is keeping our school clean and tidy!
Japanese Children's Day
Children's Day (こどもの日, Kodomo no hi) is a public holiday in Japan which takes place annually on May 5 and is the final celebration in Golden Week. It is a day set aside to respect children's personalities and to celebrate their happiness.
I have started discussing this with students and as you can imagine, they are very excited to have a day that is dedicated to them. I loved completing this activity as a child when I was learning Japanese back in primary school.
Koinobori (Carp flags/kites) symbolise determination, strength and success. Students will each create a Koinobori to display and these will be hung at the front, pencil side fence.

Term 2 Event Calendar
From the Office
It's been another action-packed fortnight here at Hilliard State School. The next fortnight is just as busy with excursions, sporting events and cultural activities!
Upcoming payments - The balance of monies is due for the Hilliard Dance annual competition program by 2nd May. Recreation and Mini-Legends payments are due by 21st May.
In other news the P&C Mother's Day stall will be held on the 9th & 10th of May - donations for the raffles, of baked goods for the stall, and volunteers are greatly appreciated. Also our Breakfast Club has had a change of days we are now serving breakfast on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday mornings from 8.30am outside the Student Support Centre (SSC).
Whooping Cough:
Since returning from the school holidays we are still receiving reports of new cases of Whooping Cough amongst our student body. Please read the fact sheets below. If you have any concerns please see your GP, phone 13 HEALTH or visit https://www.health.qld.gov.au/

School Photos
School photos have been booked for Wednesday 22nd May! Put it in your calendar and diary! The team at Advanced Life Photography will be back out to take portraits, class groups and sibling photos. More information will be sent home closer to the date.
A limited number of envelopes are available at the office!!

Uniform Shop
OPENING HOURS - THURSDAY 8:00 - 9:30AM
Dance stockings have been delivered and updated on QKR ready to purchase.
The Uniform Shop is available for ordering through QKR! Just log on and select Uniform Shop. Whilst you can place your Uniform Orders any time of day, any day of the week, currently deliveries to students classrooms will only take place each Thursday.
If an item is showing as “Unavailable” this means it is currently OUT OF STOCK.
We are expecting deliveries of uniforms in the next few weeks. Stock will be added to QKR once they arrive and are available to purchase.
SECOND HAND UNIFORMS
Search and join the FACEBOOK group: “Hilliard SS 2nd Hand Uniform Sale” where you will be able to interact with parents of all grades selling and looking for second hand uniforms.
Please note that whilst we do our best to have all stock on hand at all times, sometimes due to circumstances beyond our control, some items/sizes may be unavailable. We appreciate your patience and understanding.
