HARMONY DAY
Please see the flyer below for more information about how we will recognise and celebrate Harmony Day on Thursday. Please ensure that clothing is plain orange or predominantly orange, and not a big logo shirt that just has a small amount of orange in it. Parents are also invited to wear something orange, so that our whole school community show that we all work together to support each other.
Classes will also be working on some Harmony Day activities this week, which will create a display in our office foyer. For more information about Harmony Day, see the official website https://www.harmony.gov.au/ . Any questions, please as always, contact your child's class teacher.
EASTER HAT PARADE
We are excited to once again be hosting our Prep to Year 2 Easter Hat Parade!! Information has been sent to parents via email and/or Seesaw. We can't wait to see all the wonderful creations - what a fun way to end Term 1!
PREP VISION SCREENING
This week we had Queenland Health nurses out at Hilliard SS to conduct Prep Vision Screening. If your child was away, or you weren't able to get the permissions completed in time, please contact your child/ren's prep teacher. We will be organising to have the service visit our school again at some stage to catch up on any missed students.
Some parents have asked if Qld Health also do hearing screening. Due to the equipment needed to do accurate testing, they are unable to visit schools. However, please see the flyer below for information about Community Hearing Screening Clinics.
Expectation of the Week
The expectation of the week for weeks 9 & 10 is "Using Toilets Appropriately"

Term 1 Sports Calendar
From the P&C
Our Annual General Meeting was held on Monday night and the following executive team were elected for 2024:
President – Sam Eady
Vice President – Alice Tollis
Treasurer – Lorraine Horne
Secretary – Tracey Connell
I would like to thank our outgoing Vice Presidents, Jodie Jones and Mel Kevern, for all of their hard work over the last year. I would also like to say a big thank you to the P&C Committee as well as all our volunteers who helped in 2023. It is not too late to join the P&C Committee for 2024 so if you are interested, please PM or email myself at hilliardpandcpresident@gmail.com You can also help without even joining the committee if you don’t want to.
Here are some myth-busting facts about the P&C:
Myth 1 – The P&C is only for stay-at-home parents with nothing to do!
The P&C is open to all families who want to support their children and their school. Most members are also juggling work, chores, kids, sports, and homework – just like you.
Myth 2 – I work full-time so I can’t help at school events!
Many school events take place on weekends and evenings, and even if you work shifts there are things you can do at home or online that can help support the P&C. Alternatively, there might be the opportunity where you could donate items (i.e., food or drinks to be sold at the event, decorations etc.) or funds to be used to purchase these items.
Myth 3 – They already have lots of volunteers, so they don’t need my help!
We usually struggle to get enough volunteers for our events and we currently only have 15 members representing over 415 families. Why not join the P&C today and help make a difference?
Myth 4 – Joining the committee is just for mums
The committee is for anyone who has an interest in what happens at the school. Even grandparents can join!
Myth 5 – If I join, I will be hounded to help at lots of events.
You can choose to help at as many events as you want.
Myth 6 – I can’t attend the committee meetings every month.
You don’t need to attend every month, just come when you are free or would like to discuss something. You can also join the meeting online via Teams if you cannot make it in person plus kids are welcome to come along too if you don’t have a babysitter.
So now I’ve piqued your interest in helping out, here are some of the exciting things happening in Terms 2 and 3:
Mother’s Day stall – Thursday, 9 May and Friday, 10 May
We are looking for help with putting together some of the packs (which can be done at home) as well as anyone who can help on the day of the stalls. The kids love seeing their parents or even grandparents helping at the stalls.
Sports Day Cupcake competition and hall canteen – Tuesday, 11 June (Prep to Year 2) and Wednesday, 12 June (Years 3 to 6)
Our annual cupcake competition will again take place on both sports days. Keep an eye out for more information about this shortly. We will be opening the hall canteen for the parents on both days; however, we will need volunteers to help throughout the day. So, while your kids are not competing (and especially during the lunch breaks) we would love your help. Please keep an eye out for our online volunteer register which will be sent out after the school holidays.
Disco – Friday, 26 July
Do your kids love having a bit of a dance? Well, we are organising a Disco for Term 3 and would love for you to be part of the team organising this event. Please email hilliardpandcfundraising@gmail.com if you are interested in being part of the team organising this event.
If you have any questions about the above events or anything P&C related, please do not hesitate to email me at hilliardpandcpresident@gmail.com
Thanks so much
Sam Eady
President
