TERM 3 OSPREY CUP
Well done to all the students who represented Hilliard State School at the Osprey Cup held at Wellington Point SHS on Friday 30th August. Hilliard SS entered 4 teams into the competition and all teams had an enjoyable day playing Volleyball or Newcombe ball against other schools in the District. All teams performed very well with 3 of the teams progressing through to the Gold Medal match. All players should be very proud of their efforts.
Congratulations to the junior boys team for winning their newcombe ball final and being named as the Osprey Cup Junior Champions. The team played exceptionally well against a strong Ormiston SS team and in a very close match, Hilliard SS won by 1 point. The students focused on playing with positive team work which helped them to secure the win. A great achievement boys! Team members were: Darcy, Toma, Manutai, Hayden, Kylan, Jake, Bailey and Hudson. The best and fairest player was Hayden.
The junior girls newcombe ball team placed runners up. The team played Ormison SS in the final with the players showing a lot of persistence to continue to play well after having several back-to-back games. The players worked hard during the day to apply new skills, tactics and strategies in their games. Team members were: Zara, Kea, Kalea, Lara, Addison, Charlee, Nikita and Georgia. The best and fairest player was Charlee.
The senior boys volleyball team placed runners up behind Ormiston SS. The team showed a high level of volleyball skills in their round games. They had a great start to their final and won the first set and were only down by 5 points overall when game time finished. The team members were: Hamish, Brock, Kohana, Eli, Jayden, Tyler, Te Ao and Riley. The best and fairest player was Kohana.
The senior girls tried their hardest in all of their games and finished in fourth position. The players did well to pick up the volleyball skills quickly and continued to do their best throughout the day. Thank you to everyone who helped out and encouraged the teams on the day.
Instrumental Music
Instrumental Music students recently attended workshops with other schools in the area to hone their skills and work with other conductors. Year 6 students spent two days working on a three new pieces and performed for the Year 3 students at Thornlands SS at the conclusion of the workshop. Year 5 students had a fun day at Birkdale SS where they learnt to portray emotions such as playful and serious through the music. Recruitment for 2024 will be happening shortly. Stay tuned for more information.
