Staffing News
We have some great news to share in relation to staffing at Hilliard, as the following staff have been permanently appointed to these positions at our school:
- Nikkita Beath, Teacher
- Waltina Brown, Teacher
- Ammie Dellosa, Teacher
- Julie Labbe, Teacher
- Kirsty Cutajar, Deputy Principal
- Tracey Young, Deputy Principal
We know that consistency and stability of staffing, particularly in relation to the Senior Leadership Team, is something that we have been working hard towards securing for our school community. We are excited that we will all be able to continue the great work being done here at Hilliard, together as a permanent leadership team moving forwards.
Kindness Week
Last week was Kindness Week at Hilliard, and we were so pleased to see that our Cans of Kindness event was again very successful. Together, our school community pitched in and were able to donate a total of 784 items to the Redlands Community Centre. These donations will go a long way towards supporting many families in our community who are in need. We are really proud of our students for embracing this opportunity to learn about and practice kindness. Our thanks go to Ronan from the Redlands Community Centre for coming out and talking to our school leaders, and also to Mrs Anderson and Miss Bagnall for the great work they did in organising this for our school.
Student Free Day - Friday 1st September 2023
Just a reminder that Friday 1st September is a Student Free Day for state schools. Staff will not be coming to school that day, as we have arranged to work these hours at Professional Development activities earlier this year. Please ensure that you make other arrangements for your children that day. Don't forget that we have a fantastic new Out of School Hours Care provider at Hilliard, so check out YMCA Hilliard if youa re looking for care on that day.
Thankyou everyone, for another great fortnight of learning, leading and succeeding at Hilliard State School.
Kind regards,
Tracey Young, Acting Principal

From the P&C
Dear Parents/caregivers,
It’s time to say thank you and spoil the wonderful men in our Hilliard Community at the 2023 Hilliard Father’s Day Stall. We recognise how important the stall is to many of our children and families and we look forward to bringing a great variety of gifts at fantastic low prices.
The stall will be held over TWO days with each class being allocated 15 minutes to select their perfect gift:
Wednesday 30stand Thursday 31st August 2023
Your child/s teacher will allocate their own timeslot to work around individual class schedules. Teachers will communicate to you directly the date your child will be attending. Please keep an eye out on Facebook as we will also post the classes attending which day on there.
Gifts will range in price from $1.00 to $6.00 – please see the attached brochure for the amazing gifts on offer this year. Raffle tickets will be available for 50cents each for one of the awesome hampers we have up for grabs. The raffle draw will be drawn during last session on Thursday 1st September.
Please remember to send:
- Notes/coins in a sealed clear plastic bag / container with your child’s name and amount printed clearly, so that, if necessary, we can help the children select the correct number of items.
- A reusable bag with your child/ren for carrying gifts home.
Donations for Raffles
If you would like to donate some items to contribute towards our Father’s Raffles hampers, please drop these to the Tuckerbox before Friday 25th August 2023. Some examples of items include car wash items, movie tickets, coffee sachets, chocolates, stationary etc.
Our wonderful helpers assist children to pick their perfect present, restock the tables, write raffle tickets and be the cashier. It is a great way to get involved, have a social chat and meet some other wonderful parents. The children love seeing someone they know behind the stall. If you are available to volunteer for the stall even for a part day, we would love your help - please contact hilliardpandcfundraising@gmail.com with the days and times you can help!
Thank you for your ongoing support of the Hilliard Primary P&C Association.

The Tucker Box
Hello from the Tuckerbox!
Sustainable Spoons
This is a very exciting Initiative from the Tuckshop that we are so excited to share with all of our Hilliard Community. Mrs Ng has even made us a fabulous instructional video to go with it! All of the school will be included in the Sustainable Spoons Program, where reusable metal spoons and forks will be readily available for students to use at mealtimes. Cutlery is available from coloured Caddies in each eating area, and there is an empty caddy for used cutlery to go into before being returned to the Tuckshop, washed, sanitized and dried ready to be used again at the next break. The cutlery is available to any student who needs it not just students who have tuckshop, so no need to send spoons and forks to school anymore!
Volunteers
As always if you would like to volunteer in the Tuckshop please email us at hilliardtuckshop@gmail.com

Containers For Change
Our P&C Coordinates a Containers for Change Queensland recycling scheme to raise additional funds for our school community.
There are orange bins placed around the school to collect any containers students might have at break times, or alternatively you can donate containers directly at any depot and use: Hilliard State School Scheme Id #C10161576
This can be used across Queensland, so any family members further afield can contribute too. For more information on what containers are eligible, see www.containersforchange.com.au
Breakfast Club
The Student Support Centre (SSC) runs a breakfast club three mornings a week (Monday, Wednesday and Thursday). Providing a free nutritious breakfast to students who may not have had breakfast prior to coming to school. Brisbane State High School is a public school that is committed to providing opportunity for students. For students who are out-of-catchment, this opportunity comes in the form of selective entry places. We proudly uphold the best of public education values; opportunities to excel regardless of personal circumstance. We believe that partnerships across the whole state school sector provide a network of support and bring richness to the school experience. Selective entry opportunities allow students from a range of disciplines to further develop and grow these talents at our state high school.
Enrolment opportunities are now available for current Year 5 students for Year 7, 2025, Academic Selective Entry. Applications close on Monday 4 September 2022. Please refer to the flyer below for further details.
Throughout 2024, we will offer opportunities to apply for a range of other selective entry categories. Details of these can be found on our website – www.statehigh.com.au.
