Issue 12, 4th August 2023
From the Principal
Yura Hilliard State School community,
It’s been a whole week since our exciting morning last Friday with the team from KIIS FM broadcasting live from our hall! What an amazing morning for our school. Can you believe that Hilliard SS even made it on to the Channel 7 News?! We are so proud that we got to share with everyone what a wonderful school Hilliard is. Thank you again to everyone who was involved in organising this event, particularly Mrs Cutajar and Mrs Baker.
Our Year 4 students had a fabulous time away at Kindilan camp at the beginning of this week. This was the first school camp for our students, and for some it was the first night spent away from home. Everyone had so much fun on this camp, and lots of special memories were made. We are so grateful to all the teachers who generously give up their own time away from their families to make this camp experience possible for our students.
Yesterday afternoon we held another successful Prep 2024 Principal Tour & Information Session. It was lovely to show new families around our great school, and share information about what Hilliard can offer. We know that selecting a school for your child is a huge decision, and we hope that many of these families choose to join us here at Hilliard next year – not only for the wonderful education and childhood experience they will have, but also so they can be welcomed as a family into our school community.
Next week at Hilliard SS is Kindness Week, where we practice and celebrate being kind. As a way for students to show kindness to people in our wider community, two of our staff members are organising “Kindness in a Can”. Students are asked to bring in a can of food, that will be donated to a charity and support families in need. Students who bring in a can are allowed to wear rainbow coloured socks. Please see posters around the school and on our Facebook page for more information. Special thanks to Mrs Anderson and Miss Bagnall for all their work in organising this.
I would like to take this opportunity to wish all of our Hilliard Dance teams the very best of luck as they head down to Nationals in Adelaide at the end of this week. We know that you will proudly represent Hilliard at the competition, and we look forward to seeing all the photos and celebrating your efforts when you return!
H-I-L-L-I-A-R-D-woo woo!!
Yours in learning, leading and succeeding,
Ms Young
Acting Principal

School Calendar
From the P&C
Dear Parents/caregivers,
What an amazing fortnight we have had, with an exciting visit from 97.3 KIIS FM, Dami Im, and Seven News! Everyone had a great time, and the hungry crowd kept hydrated and fed with a breakfast BBQ and drinks put on by P&C. So, thank you to all the wonderful volunteers who helped keep the drinks cold, and the breakfast rolls/sausage sizzle hot! We couldn’t have these wonderful events without our generous volunteers, and while we love seeing the usual faces helping, we would be thrilled to see some new faces come and give a hand. So, don’t be shy, come say hello, and meet some other giving hearts.
It’s also time to say thank you and spoil the wonderful men in our Hilliard Community at the 2023 Hilliard Father’s Day Stall. We recognise how important the stall is to many of our children and families and we look forward to bringing a great variety of gifts at fantastic low prices!
The stall will be held over TWO days with each class being allocated 15 minutes to select their perfect gift:
Wednesday 30stand Thursday 31st August 2023
Your child’s teacher will allocate their own timeslot to work around individual class schedules. Teachers will communicate to you directly the date your child will be attending. Please keep an eye out on Facebook as we will also post the classes attending which day on there.
Gifts will range in price from $1.00 to $6.00 – Raffle tickets will be available for 50 cents each for one of the awesome hampers we have up for grabs. The raffle draw will be drawn during last session on Thursday 1st September.
Please remember to send:
- Notes/coins in a sealed clear plastic bag / container with your child’s name and amount printed clearly, so that, if necessary, we can help the children select the correct number of items.
- A reusable bag with your child/ren for carrying gifts home.
Donations for Raffles
If you would like to donate some items to contribute towards our Father’s Raffles hampers, please drop these to the Tuckerbox before Friday 25th August 2023. Some examples of items include car wash items, movie tickets, coffee sachets, chocolates, stationary etc.
Our wonderful helpers assist children to pick their perfect present, restock the tables, write raffle tickets and be the cashier. It is a great way to get involved, have a social chat and meet some other wonderful parents. The children love seeing someone they know behind the stall. If you are available to volunteer for the stall even for a part day, we would love your help - please contact hilliardpandcfundraising@gmail.com with the days and times you can help!
Thank you for your ongoing support of the Hilliard Primary P&C Association.

Hello from the Tuckerbox!
Sustainable Spoons
This is a very exciting Initiative from the Tuckshop that we are so excited to share with all of our Hilliard Community. Mrs Ng has even made us a fabulous instructional video to go with it! As of next week all of the school will be included in the Sustainable Spoons Program, where reusable metal spoons and forks will be readily available for students to use at mealtimes. Cutlery is available from coloured Caddies in each eating area, and there is an empty caddy for used cutlery to go into before being returned to the Tuckshop, washed, sanitized and dried ready to be used again at the next break. The cutlery is available to any student who needs it not just students who have tuckshop, so no need to send spoons and forks to school anymore!
An Update on Gluten Free Nuggets!!!!
THEY ARE BACK!
Volunteers
As always if you would like to volunteer in the Tuckshop please email us at hilliardtuckshop@gmail.com
Love and Smiles

Containers For Change
Our P&C Coordinates a Containers for Change Queensland recycling scheme to raise additional funds for our school community.
There are orange bins placed around the school to collect any containers students might have at break times, or alternatively you can donate containers directly at any depot and use:
Hilliard State School Scheme Id #C10161576
This can be used across Queensland, so any family members further afield can contribute too. For more information on what containers are eligible, see www.containersforchange.com.au
IMPORTANT P&C DATES
We thought we would provide parents with a rough idea of some important P&C dates for 2023. Of course, these are subject to change, and we will let you know as soon as we can of any changes. Keep an eye on the school’s Facebook page and/or the appropriate year level Facebook pages.
