The Tucker Box
Hello from Italy! 😊
We have had an outstanding response to our Around the World trip, so far enjoying our Sushi Bowls from Japan, Tacos and Quesadillas from Mexico, last week we enjoyed Butter Chicken and Naan Bread from India, and this week finds us in Italy for some Lasagne and Pizza.
Next week we are off to our final Country, the USA for Hotdogs and homemade Mac and Cheese before we revisit most of the countries, we have been to so far in Week 8 so keep your eyes peeled for those dishes in the ‘Daily Specials’ section of QKR.
We are launching our ‘Capture the Flag Competition’ on Parade in Week 8 with winners to be announced on Parade in Week 9. Details will be released closer to competition week, but our three winning students will win dinner for their whole family cooked fresh in the Tuckshop to be sent home in the last week of school! So keep your eyes peeled!!!
We have some new and very exciting offerings for Over-the-Counter treats at lunchtimes also. Due to a container supply issue with plastic cups that we serve our Milk Cups in, we have taken our recipe and turned them into Milky Pops, available for $1. We have also added Licks Sugar Free Icy Poles to our menu with Mango, Berry, and Pink Lemonade flavours available for $2. During the colder terms, please remind your little ones that Pikelets, Lamington Brownies, and Sweet Muffins are available over the counter at Lunchtime also 😊
As mentioned in our last Newsletter, we are hoping to launch our Sustainable Spoons Program this term. However we cannot until we have enough spoons and Forks to service the Prep Students. If you have any spare or unwanted metal spoons (even teaspoons) or Forks you would like to donate towards this initiative, please bring them to the Tuckshop, any would be greatly appreciated.
We were treated to a beautiful video message from our beloved Hilliard students on Parade last week, with wishes and heartfelt thanks for us and our P&C. Hearing from your children how grateful they are for the work that we do brought a tear to our eyes and we want to say a big Thank You right back. The Students and Parents of our Hilliard Families are the reason we do what we do, and the love was certainly felt 😊
Finally, thank you to Hilliard for putting on a fantastic Volunteer Appreciation afternoon tea for all of our lovey and very much appreciated volunteers, new and returning, it was wonderful to see those that could make it there on the day. If you’ve been thinking about Volunteering in the Tuckshop but haven’t reached out yet, please don’t be shy. Everyone is welcome (and kids LOVE seeing you there) 😊
So if you would like to volunteer in the Tuckshop please email us at hilliardtuckshop@gmail.com

Containers For Change
Our P&C Coordinates a Containers for Change Queensland recycling scheme to raise additional funds for our school community.
There are orange bins placed around the school to collect any containers students might have at break times, or alternatively you can donate containers directly at any depot and use:
Hilliard State School Scheme Id #C10161576
This can be used across Queensland, so any family members further afield can contribute too. For more information on what containers are eligible, see www.containersforchange.com.au

Road Safety
Please be mindful of Road Safety around the school!
Our lovely School Crossing Supervisors man the crossings on Hanover Drive and Alexandra Circuit before and after school. Their job is to ensure the safety of people using the crossings, and also to ensure that the traffic is flowing around the school and not creating congestion and traffic jams. We all know how frustrating school pick up can be.
Smith Family
The Smith Family continues to run its matched savings program for families to help with school related expenses. Saver Plus supports eligible families to save for education related expenses by providing up to $500 for school costs via our free budgeting and matched savings program. We have now had over 55,000 families complete the program over the 20 years the program has been running.
You can find more information about the program on our website or our Facebook page.
Families can use this initiative to pay for items such as:
- Laptops, computers, or tablets
- School uniforms
- School books and stationery
- Textbooks
- Music classes or instruments
- Sporting classes or equipment
- Excursions and camps
