From the Leadership Team
Welcome to Preservice Teachers
Hilliard State School is committed to the ongoing advancement of the teaching profession. As such, our teachers generously offer to take on preservice teachers to provide them with important training opportunities in real classrooms to support their study of curriculum and pedagogy. Currently we are welcoming 6 preservice teachers to Hilliard SS from QUT and USQ. If you see these new faces around our school, please make them feel welcome.
Later this term we will also be hosting a number of preservice teachers from Griffith University. Our thanks go to our teachers who take on preservice teacher supervision. We are confident that these teachers will ensure that their training is a high quality experience that they will benefit from into the future of their teaching careers.
Term 2 Lunchtime Clubs
Once again, we have our popular lunchtime clubs up and running this term. There are a variety of activities available to different age groups at different break times each day of the week. Students are welcome to attend any of these clubs, however numbers are monitored by the teachers to ensure adequate supervision and student safety.
Community Information Sessions for Parents
Hilliard State School leads our local Gana Early Years Neighbourhood Network, which is a collaboration of Primary Schools, kindergartens, and Early Childhood Education and Care providers. Through this network we are able to access a range of free information sessions for our parents. Please see the flyer below for an upcoming opportunity that our Hilliard parents are invited to attend.
From the Office
An important message regarding student safety on the way to and from school
Please ensure that if your student travels to school on a bike that they are wearing a helmet and following the road rules. We have had an increase in notifications from members of the public reporting our students are not being safe whilst riding their bikes to and from school.
We would also like to remind our Hilliard community about following the correct procedure at drop off and pick up, including:
- Using crossings appropriately
- Obeying parking rules / signs
- Not speeding in school zones
Please be extra aware and vigilant around the school in the mornings and afternoons.
School Photos
This year we have chosen a different photography company for our school photos. Advanced Life will be onsite Wednesday 24th May to take our school photos. Sibling photos will be available also from 8am in the hall. More information will be coming home very shortly!

It’s time to spoil the wonderful women in our Hilliard Community at the 2023 Hilliard Mother’s Day Stall.
Your child’s teacher will allocate their own timeslot to work around individual class schedules. Teachers will communicate to you directly the date your child will be attending.
Gifts will range in price from $1.00 to $7.00.
Donations for Hampers
If you would like to donate some items to contribute towards our Mothers Day Raffle hampers, please drop these to the Tuckerbox before Wednesday 3rd May 2023. Some examples of items include pamper items, bath items, movie tickets, coffee sachets, chocolates, stationery etc.
Baked Goods
We are bringing back baked goods for the stall. We would love to have a yummy selection of treats to offer the kids to purchase. You can simply bring these to the Tuckerbox on Wednesday 10th May or up to the stall Thursday or Friday morning before school starts. If these days don’t work, please email us and we can help arrange this
Our wonderful helpers assist children to pick their perfect present, restock the tables, write raffle tickets and be the cashier. It is a great way to get involved, have a social chat and meet some other wonderful parents. The children love seeing someone they know behind the stall. If you are available to volunteer for the stall, even for a part day, we would love your help - please email hilliardpandcfundraising@gmail.com with the days and times you can help!
We are collecting plastic bread bags to recycle plastic and earn sports equipment for our school. Please drop empty bread bags to the collection box in the office

The Tucker Box
Welcome to Term 2!
We are very excited to be back in the Tuckerbox for another term with some very exciting plans for our Autumn Menu.
This Term we are going Around The World with Food. We are looking forward to bringing some cultural specials to Hilliard tummies and what better country to start off in than our LOTE country Japan.
Next week (Week 3) we will have two Japanese inspired special dishes added to our Menu. On Thursday and Friday we will have delicious Honey Soy Chicken and Tuna Mayo Sushi Bowls available. Then on Friday for Childrens Day we will have fresh Sushi Rolls available for order*
In Week 4 we are heading over to Mexico for Tacos and Nachos, so keep your eyes peeled on Facebook for any updates. All Around The World Specials will be on Thursdays and Fridays of each week and will be found under the Daily Specials tab in QKR.
*Sushi Rolls ordering cut off will be 3pm on Thursday afternoon for a Friday delivery

UNIFORM SHOP NEWS
OPENING HOURS: THURS 8:00 - 9:30AM
The Uniform Shop is available for ordering through QKR! Just log and select Uniform Shop. Whilst you can place your Uniform Orders any time of day, any day of the week, currently deliveries to students classrooms will only take place each Thursday.
If an item is showing as “Unavailable” this means it is currently OUT OF STOCK.
SECOND HAND UNIFORMS
Search and join the FACEBOOK group: “Hilliard SS 2nd Hand Uniform Sale” where you will be able to interact with parents of all grades selling and looking for second hand uniforms.
Please note that whilst we do our best to have all stock on hand at all times, sometimes due to circumstances beyond our control, some items/sizes may be unavailable. We appreciate your patience and understanding.

Containers For Change
Our P&C Coordinates a Containers for Change
Queensland recycling scheme to raise additional
funds for our school community.
There are orange bins placed around the school
to collect any containers students might have at
break times, or alternatively you can donate containers
directly at any depot and use:

Speech and Drama Prep to year 6
Speech and Drama is on Monday at 7.30am. This is the last term for students to join. If your child loves to perform and would love to improve their communication skills this is the class!
