We are going to trial adding my Weekly videos as our Principal News. Usually, the newsletter is a repeat of the weekly video so rather than spend time typing it up, we will embed the video here.
I have added headings so that you can scroll through the sections that are relevant to you. In this week's video the following are covered:
- Mural
- Breakfast Club
- Yr 3-6 Swimming
- Osprey Cup
- NAPLAN practice
- 2nd Round Senior Leaders
- Class Leaders

NAPLAN Online
In Week 8 and Week 9 of Term 1, 2023 NAPLAN Online will be conducted for Years 3 and 5 at Hilliard State School. NAPLAN is a national test conducted across the whole of Australia.
Hilliard SS will be conducting NAPLAN Online Practice Tests on:
- Week 7 Tuesday 7th March 9am Year 3
- Week 7 Wednesday 8th March 9am Year 5
Hilliard SS NAPLAN Online Testing will be held on:
- Week 8 Year 3 Writing (not Online) 9am Wednesday 15th March
- Week 8 Year 5 Writing Online 9am Wednesday 15th March
- Week 8 Year 3 and Year 5 Reading Online 9am Thursday 16th March
- Week 8 Year 3 and Year 5 Language Conventions Online 9am Friday 17th March
- Week 9 Year 3 and Year 5 Numeracy Online 9am Monday 18th March
- Week 9 Catch up tests for students who have been absent
All students will need to have the application called NAP Browser and ensure this is up to date prior to 6th March 2023. This can be done via the Apple App Store.
We encourage all students in Years 3 and 5 to participate, however, if you would prefer your child not to be involved please talk to your classroom teacher.
Every day during NAPLAN week student devices must be charged to 100%. This is to ensure that the students are able to complete the required test for that day. No iPad minis are allowed to be used during the testing. If your child has no iPad or forgets their iPad on the day the school will loan them an iPad for the testing period.
At the beginning of each testing day students are reminded to have their breakfast and bring their drink bottle with water in it. The school will provide fruit for those students who would like a snack prior to testing.
If you have any other questions, please contact your class teacher.

From the P&C
What a busy fortnight we’ve had! Thank you to everyone who made it to the Bunnings sausage sizzle last Sunday to help out or enjoy a snag, your support is much appreciated. We also enjoyed an amazing pancake day, last Tuesday, hosted by our amazing Tuckerbox! Thank you to our very talented convenors, Ms Courtney and Mrs Kat, and the generous volunteers who helped bring the kids a day of deliciousness!
Coming up, we have another amazing chance to show off our sausage sizzle skills. This Saturday 4th March is the grand re-opening of the IGA on Vienna Road. Our generous supporter, Dan from the IGA, has offered us the opportunity to run the BBQ and hold a raffle. We have some awesome Lego to raffle, kindly donated by BrisBricks. We look forward to celebrating with them all!
On Saturday 11th March Hilliard State School is hosting ‘Lego on the Hill’ by BrisBricks. The P&C are running the canteen in the hall. If you would like to help out in the canteen, please let us know via the sign up sheet here:
Also, if you are a bit crafty and/or have some lovely little Mother’s Day stall goodies that you are happy to donate, we would appreciate the efforts and generosity. If you can help, please reach out to us: hilliardpandcfundraising@gmail.com

We would like to once again thank our Hilliard Community for supporting our latest fundraising day in the Tuckshop, National Pancake Day. We raised $741 for the day and that goes straight back into the Hilliard P&C to make our school the best it possibly can be for our students.
The next fundraising theme day will be held on Friday the 24th of March for Easter and we can’t wait to start sharing with you what delicious treats we will have on offer soon so keep your eyes peeled.
We have a few Special dates coming up including:
- Taco Thursday 2/3/23
- Paddy’s Pizza Day 17/3/23
- Harmony Day 21/3/23
- Easter 24/3/23
We would also like to continue to thank new and existing volunteers who continue to give up their time to help in the Tuckerbox, without whom we would be forever lost. Thank you for your continued selfless commitment to our school and Tuckshop community.
If you would like to volunteer in the Tuckshop, please email us at hilliardtuckshop@gmail.com
Everyone is welcome 😊
Love and Smiles
Mrs Kat and Ms Courtney
Containers For Change
Our P&C Coordinates a Containers for Change Queensland recycling scheme to raise additional funds for our school community.
There are orange bins placed around the school to collect any containers students might have at break times, or alternatively you can donate containers directly at any depot and use:
Hilliard State School Scheme Id #C10161576
This can be used across Queensland, so any family members further afield can contribute too. For more information on what containers are eligible, see www.containersforchange.com.au
