From the Principal
Yura families and carers
Hilliard SS has been involved in a number of sporting events over the last two weeks. We are very proud of all the students who have represented the school in Rugby and District sports. As we receive all the results we will add it to the Sport section in the newsletter.
Alexandra Hills State High School visited on Thursday afternoon to share their musical talent and love for music. Three ensembles performed for our students sharing their knowledge of the instruments and music. At Hilliard, we have an instrumental program that begins in Yr 4 so if your child is interested in learning an instrument, please keep watching for the enrolment process later in the year.
I am thrilled to announce that the Science Factory EXPO is visiting Hilliard State School for science week! We are looking forward to celebrating Science with our incursion, the school and P&C have paid for the visit. The Science Factory EXPO is a hands-on workshop that will challenge young minds from Prep – Year 6.
The EXPO presents students with the opportunity to explore a wide range of exciting and challenging SCIENCE and TECHNOLOGY based activities. Each activity has been carefully crafted and extensively trialled, aiming to teach scientific concepts and reinforce them through hands-on experiments. Key functions of creative and critical thinking include, generating alternative ideas and solutions, problem solving, making new connections, and seeing things from a different perspective in a fun and exciting way! Some activities include Robotics, Hypotonic Wheel, Wally Robot, Mirror Reflections, Our Solar System Space, Flying Carpet Illusion, Solar Bugs, Hydraulic Arm, Dino Poo Fossil Specimen, Shark Jaws, Nano Bug Maze, plus many, many more. Each session runs for 80 minutes allowing students to explore the activities for a minimum of 60 minutes.
We had the opportunity to meet some of our Pre-Prep parents this week. I felt proud showing off our school and the work that we are doing both inside and outside the classrooms. It is a great feeling to celebrate with potential enrolments how wonderful our school is. The main message we hope they all left with is that we are all a team in the education of the students. So, if you have any concerns or questions please reach out to the class teachers and /or a member of the leadership team.
Have a lovely weekend

BOOK WEEK 2022
Each year since 1945, the Children's Book Council of Australia have brought children and books together across Australia through CBCA Book Week. This year, the theme for Book Week is "Dreaming with eyes open". Our fabulous teacher aides are creating a display in the library of this year's shortlisted books, across the week, classes will be engaging with the books and various activities to promote the love of and importance of reading.
Hilliard State School families are invited to join in a Book Week parade on Thursday 25th August at 9am. ALL students are welcome to dress up in their favourite Book Week themed costume, and participate in a parade around the school. We would love to have parents / families come in to watch the children as they parade around the school.
To ensure social distancing, we will be hosting a parade similar to the one held in 2021. Students will walk the main pathways around the school, and parents are welcome to stand on the grassy areas beside the main pathways to watch and cheer on our students.

Dear Hilliard School Community,
Next week the Hilliard Breakfast Club will begin, it will run every Thursday morning from 8.20am until the 8.55am bell. Well done to the Hilliard State School Senior Rugby League team for winning all of their round games at the Regional Shield held at Carina Leagues Club on Thursday. The team members showed lots of skill with their evasive steps, grubber kicks, numbers in tackles and strong defensive line, which helped them to win against Harris Fields and Mansfield. The team displayed great teamwork in their play off game against St Laurence's, however, lost the game 5-2. Wynnum were the overall winners of the day.
Thank you to all of the wonderful Hilliard SS supporters, Mr Wolens, Mr Horsfall and especially Mrs Mills.
